Midnight Juggernauts, Holy Spook and Disco Legend Nicky Siano.Johnathan Deleon Baldilocks A blogger's African father came here on the same airlift as Obama's pa. The slinky seduction of vintage disco beats or the raucous desert of nu-rave rhythms? This Hump Night, dance inhabitants have 2 diversely dynamic parties to select from. At the Vanguard, the Scion House Party ( an once a month event thrown with IHeartComix and Vice mag ) offers Australia's Midnight Juggernauts, a dance-rock outfit in the vein of the Klaxons ( they just toured with Justice, so ya know they are getting their techno on ). Also on the bill, sonic treats from ice-cream-truck groovers HeartsRevolution, enthusiastic DFA dude Holy Spook and DJ Pharrell ( not the NERD guy, but a fella from the bodacious MP3 blog Fluokids ). Over at La Cita, the cool new bimonthly discoteque called Full Frontal ( believe the decadence of Club Rhonda, just with additional divas in the mix ) has an NYC legend on the decks, Studio 54 / The Studio spin man Nicky Siano. Siano's happy sets were the soundtrack to '70s-era hedonism in NYC. He also came back to the club scene in latter '90s, spinning modern house music at the hot spot Twelve Street, but we are hoping he'll go more retro for this rare L.A. If we do not hear some Moroder or Grace Jones at this one, we'll Klaxonseat our spandex bodysuit. |
